How to move every due date in a Canvas unit at once
Short answer: in Canvas, go to Assignments → ⋮ Options → Edit Assignment Dates, tick the unit’s items, then Batch Edit → Shift Dates. Or open Course++ in your course and type: “We had a snow day. Push everything in Unit 4 back two school days.”
The problem
A snow day just knocked your whole unit off schedule.
Canvas’s date tool lists assignments, not units, and counts calendar days, not school days. So you pick the items by hand, then work out the weekend for each one.

How to shift due dates in Canvas by hand
- In Course Navigation, click Assignments.
- Click the Options icon (three dots) beside +Assignment and choose Edit Assignment Dates.
- Tick the unit’s items, one by one or by typing a date range.
- Click Batch Edit.
- Choose Shift Dates, enter a number of days, and click Ok.
- Check the new dates, then click Save.
Good to know
- Canvas counts calendar days. “Two school days” is +2 for a Wednesday item but +4 for a Thursday or Friday one, so you may need one batch per weekday.
- Calendar events aren’t in Canvas’s list. Move a review session or field trip on the Calendar too. Course++ can move those as well; just mention them.
- Course++ can undo most of it. Its History keeps the old dates. It can’t undo changes to New Quizzes, or to an assignment students have already submitted to, and the undo preview names those first.
Questions teachers ask
Can Canvas move all the due dates in a module at once?
Not by module. Canvas’s Batch Edit lists your assignments, quizzes and graded discussions, so you tick the module’s items yourself. Course++ reads the module for you, so “everything in Unit 4” is enough.
Can I move due dates earlier in Canvas?
Batch shifting moves dates later, which suits a snow day. To pull dates earlier in Canvas, edit each item. With Course++, ask for the earlier date the same way: “Move Unit 5 up two days.”
Will moving a due date publish anything?
No. Changing a date doesn’t publish an assignment, in Canvas or with Course++.
